Caspak has modelled its business around innovation and efficiency so the introduction of energy self sufficiency, water harvesting, power usage minimisation, an air travel carbon offset program and a “cycle to work initiative” are all logical extensions of that model.
Shortly after the installation of our Solar Panel "Power Station" in February 2012, Caspak purchased its first 100% Electric car (Nissan Leaf) for its Admin Dept. This cars range is approximately 120kms on a full charge.
Our overall goal is carbon neutrality in all our operations.
Power self sufficiency
In February 2012 the company acted on a stated aim to be self sufficient in terms of it’s power requirements by installing a 22kw solar power system. The 88 solar panels in the array peaked at 105 Kwh a day – enough to run 5 average households for a day. Our aim is to put more power back into the grid than we draw.

Insulation and power conservation
In 2009 the company commissioned an energy audit of it’s operations which in turn provided a road map for measures required to bring its operation in line with best energy conservation practise. That work was completed in 2010 and Caspak is reaping the benefits. Also, as part of the solar power installation, a power tracking device was configured to accurately measure where power was being used in the company at any point in time, allowing action to be taken where non optimal use is occurring.
Water as a resource will continue to be an on-going problem worldwide. To do our part, a 26,000 litre tank was installed to collect rain water in order to run our non potable water requirements saving in excess of 55,000 litres annually.
Air travel carbon offset
Research is under way to determine the best method of offsetting our carbon emissions as a result of company air travel.
Cycle and public transport to work
To encourage staff members to cycle and or take public transport, the company is paying the public transport cost for those who wish to take up this offer. Showers, a bike rack and a locker room have been installed for those who choose to cycle to work.
